Every service, across greater Boitekong

Drains and toilets first, then the rest, each explained for Rustenburg.

When the water stops at night, Boitekong's drains pay for it

Boitekong's sewage goes to the Boitekong treatment works, built in 1990 near Bospoort Dam and designed for 24 megalitres a day. In its 2024/25 annual report the municipality explained why the works missed its target: "sewer blockages outside RWST jurisdiction" and "intermittent flow due to water restrictions: there is no water at night".

A sewer needs water running through it to carry waste away. When the supply goes off for the night, toilets cannot flush properly and the pipes run nearly dry, so solids settle where they should keep moving. The next morning everyone flushes at once onto what was left behind.

The effects are on record. Sewage has flowed outside homes in Boitekong Extension 8 since December 2025, according to an EWN report in January 2026. Sunrise and Paardekraal residents described years of overflows back in 2018. The municipality's own plan says greater Boitekong is "the most impacted area" in its War on Leaks campaign, citing illegal connections, vandalism and theft.

Most of that is the municipality's to fix: the street sewer, the manholes, the bulk lines. What happens between your toilet and the municipal connection is yours. A drain on that stretch that blocks again and again is usually telling you something: a dip in the pipe, a broken joint, or a connection that was never laid at the right fall.

So the first job is to find out which side the blockage is on. If the manhole in the street is overflowing, report it. If it is clear and your yard drain is full, the problem is on your property, and clearing it properly, then finding why it keeps happening, is plumbing work.

When the water comes back after a night off, flush each toilet and pour a full sink of water down the kitchen drain. It pushes the night's solids on before they settle.

Boitekong lies on the low ground towards Bospoort Dam

Boitekong lies north-east of the town centre on the low ground falling towards Bospoort Dam, about 1,100 m above sea level. With nearly 80,000 people at the 2011 Census across its extensions, it was the biggest place in the municipality outside the town itself.

The R510 runs past it towards Bospoort and Thabazimbi. Boitekong Mall is the main shopping centre, with Sunrise Park Shopping Mall closer to town, and Meriting, Seraleng, Kanana and Freedom Park nearby.

Plumbing questions from Boitekong

Ask your own in the call-back form.

How much does it cost to unblock a toilet or drain in Boitekong?

Estimates posted on Procompare in 2026 for drain unblocking in Rustenburg run from about R1,200 to R1,800, depending on how far down the blockage is. You are told the call-out fee on the phone and get a price before the work starts.

The manhole in our street is overflowing. Who fixes it?

Street manholes and sewer mains are the municipality's. Report it on 014 590 3111. If the street manhole is clear and your own yard drain is full, the blockage is on your property.

Why does my toilet block every time the water has been off?

Without water, waste sits in the pipe and settles. Flushing once the water is back pushes it on, but a pipe with a dip or a broken joint holds it every time. If it keeps happening, the line is looked at with a camera.

Can a backyard room be connected to my drain properly?

Yes. The municipality says networks in parts of Rustenburg are strained by backyard dwellings and illegal connections, so it is worth doing right: the new drain laid at the correct fall into your own line, with an access point to clear it. Ask the municipality whether your connection needs approval before the work starts.

Can you fix a leaking toilet cistern that runs all day?

Yes. It is usually the inlet valve or the flush seal, often fouled by grit after outages. A running cistern can waste a lot of water, so it is worth fixing quickly.

Do you work in Meriting, Seraleng and Freedom Park?

Yes. Meriting, Seraleng, Freedom Park, Kanana, Sunrise Park and Paardekraal are all covered. Put your extension in the form.
